Diwali visit for Building Bridges Burnley

A group of about 25 people, some Christian and some Muslim, visited a Hindu Temple in Preston to watch the Diwali Celebrations. The group were all people who are interested in bringing communities together with the help of  ‘Building Bridges”.

The visit was to the newest mandir (temple) Baps Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in the heart of Preston. The temple has only just opened for worship and the group were the first guests to visit. They were given a real hearty welcome with guides and interpreters to help them to understand the service. The most moving part for most visitors was the candle  service where everyone was given a chance to partake if they wanted to. All the visitors were given gifts of sweets and calendars as they left.

They were invited back for next year’s celebrations when the temple will be completely finished.
