CAFOD Soup lunch for Harvest Fast day.

As a new initiative St John’s CAFOD group organised a soup lunch this Harvest Fast Day. The table was set out as a communal meal with an empty place set in order to remember the 1 in 8 people who go hungry, every day in the world.
A poster of Mayling, a 9 year old from Nicaragua, occupied the empty seat. Mayling lives with her grandmother Marta and they often go hungry. With the help of CAFOD Marta has learned to look after a bee hive. The honey supplements their diet and the surplus is sold at the local market.
Youngsters from St John’s primary School and Blessed Trinity attended the meal with some their teachers along with parishioners, friends and CAFOD volunteers.
