School Memorial Service for WW1 men of our parish who were killed.

This morning, at our parish school, the children attended a memorial service for WW1 fallen soldiers of our parish. The service, conducted by Fr Michael, included hymns, prayers and gospel readings all done by the children. There was a display and explanation of all the flags of the UK as well United Nations, Europe and the flag of Peace.
Perhaps the most moving part was when 67 children stood up , each holding the name of a fallen soldier. The names were read out and placed on the cross. There were 6 pairs of brothers from the parish who were killed.

Everyone was wondering how the service would end as after a minute’s silence everyone felt so sad, then we heard the quiet beginning of ‘It’s a long way to Tipperary’ . Soon everyone was singing and it seemed the perfect ending. Thanks to Mrs Cassidy for planning the event.

the photos from the service are here.
